”… coming to station square in…” the voice called through out the train.
White clowds of smoke streamed above the red train as it moved to a stop at the deafeningly loud trainstation full of chattering people hustling and rushing past each other to get onto the train. A childs face was out of one of the many windows of the train, a girl in a small black uniform with a skirt and jacket, red ribbon tied at the front, brown eyes curiously eyeing the station while bronze hair was hanging half out of the window, the girl seemed to be too short to reach the window without climbing a little. The dark copper cabbin was otherwise empty, the dark green seat next to her full of bags of different sizes, one at the top half open, a yellow-ish hat pokeing out of it like an eyesore. The girl tried to get a better footing and slipped, though landing safely on the cushioned seat with slight surprise, just as a man wearing a yellow-ish jacket and pants came in through the cabbin door, a newspaper under his arm and a few sandwiches in one hand with a cup of coffee in the other.
“you clumbsy lil’ nut.” He shrughed as he looked at her, making room for himself on the other seat and sitting down, “you’re gona get yourself hurt doing that sooner or later.” He said while handing the girl one of the sandwiches as she sat up straight on the seat, putting her feet ontop of the mans knees.
“yeah, yeah, I know. But Uncle, how am I supposed to see through those dirty windows?” the girl asked as she started nibling on the sandwich, looking to the windows with a frown. The window was covered by what looked like a years worth of filth, “did you bring me anything to drink?” she added as the man took a sip from the cup of coffee, though as he looked at her, he nearly spilled the hot coffee on his lap before putting his free hand into one of his jacket pockets and pulled a green bottle out of it.
“I nearly forgot, this was realy hard to find, you know.” He said with a slightly depressed tone to his voice as he gave the bottle to the girl, “here ya go.”
She seemed to get overjoyed, “thanks uncle.” The girl said as she smiled, both looking around a moment later as the train nudged forward, “oh! We started moving already?” she added, standing up on the seat again and looking out of the open window, the man cleaning the front of his pants off from the coffee he had spilled.
“next stop, Emerald City!” the man cheered with a slightly higher pitched voice as the girl looked out at the scenery that was changing from busy streets to the calm country side, the sun high above, shining on the many fields, lakes and forests that passed quickly.
“I wish Emerald City was a beautiful place.” The girl said to herself as she felt the fresh country air on her face, listening to the many rythmical clanks of the train that sped along the trails.
“Emerald City was a beautiful place, and still is.” The man replied with a smirk, having the yellow-ish hat from one of the bags on his face now as he leaned on the back of the seat. the girl looked at him snore for a while before turning back to the window just as the door slammed open.
“Oh my god! It’s a pedophile.” A woman dragging a large bag practicaly shouted in a sarcastic tone of voice as the two startled, the girl dropping down on the seat again, the woman straightening her glasses as she looked at her, “and I thought the circus monkeys where enough.”
The girl looked towards the door curiously while the man straightened his hat up a little to peer at the woman, a clearly uncomfortable expression spreading on his face as he straightened up.
“well, well, well... mighty long time I saw you... Jade...” he said as the woman looked at him confusedly while sitting on the seat infront of him, “I see you did it again, didn’t ya?” she asked, pointing at the mans pants while he soon after tried to cover it up, “umm... yeah.”
The girl suddenly spun around completely towards the woman on the seat.
“who the hell are you and why do you know Uncle?” she asked plainly, pokeing the womans shoulder.
“Aren’t you a little too young for that kind of language?” the woman replied, glareing past her glasses at the girl as if to be scary, though the girl seemed to get a little bit annoyed, “I’m 15, so ‘F’ you.” She retorted, “now tell me.”
“you don’t look older than 10!” the woman snapped, the girl looking towards the man with a sad face as she moved away from the woman, the man shrughing.
“Jade, you shouldn’t be so mean.” The man said, “... you do remember her, right?”
the girl and the woman looked at each other for a moment before the woman shook her head.
“you seriously don’t remember her?” the man sighed, pulling his hat down a little as the two became more and more confused, leering at him annoyingly, “oh well... she’s Asuki, you were there when she was born, remember now?” he added, the woman jolted in surprise after a while, “oh! Now I remember!- we should get ready to get off soon.” The woman added while looking out of the window, “you can see through that?!” the girl asked in surprise before standing up and looking out of the open window at the top, the country scenery had a mountain range in the horrizon now, and there where more and more roads and houses rolling by as an announcement began;
“next stop, Emerald City.”
As the train stopped at the station, Asuki and the man hurried to get all the bags out before the train left again. When Asuki looked around, she noticed large apple trees blooming next to the trainstation, petals from the pink-ish flowers floating down like snowflakes.
The woman suddenly spun around to face the two as they finaly got the last bags out.
“Charles, you know where I live, since I haven’t moved, you pervert, and Asuki, my name’s Jade Clover, if you’re going to the Lake Side School, you’ll probly meet my daughter, just so you know.” Jade said quickly as Asuki sighed, “My name’s Asuki Kazama, just so you know.” She retorted annoyedly, looking to another direction out of boredome, Jade suddenly messing Asuki’s already messed up hair even more before waving to the two as she ran off out of the station.
“who was she, uncle?” Asuki asked again, not having heard a clear answer yet. Charles sighed, grabbing some of the bags, ”well, she was one of the doctors in the hospital you were-... you’re not listening, are you?” he asked as he noticed that Asuki was looking towards the apple trees. She was having an uneasy feeling like she was being watched. She thought she had seen something next to one of the trees, but it was impossible. It couldn’t have, she thought, but still, for a moment... I thought I saw me.
“Asuki?” a mans voice ringed in her ear for the 3rd time, but this was the first time she tried to recognise it, “Asuki, what are you looking at?” the mans voice said before Asuki turned around to look at the man in the yellow outfit, soon after recognising him. She looked at him in surprise for a moment before looking back to the apple trees, the uneasy feeling miraculously having vanished. Charles looked at Asuki worriedly for a while as she shrughed to herself, before cheering up a little, “c’mon! We should get a move on! At this rate it’ll be night before we even get to our new home and get unpacked for tomorrow!” he smirked, patting hard on Asuki’s shoulder, making her tobble forward a little, getting a nervous nod from her before she turned to smile back.
They started walking out of the station with the many bags they had. It was clearly less crowded, but with as many bags as they had, it was still hard to maneuver through the masses without hitting or pushing people. When they passed the main doors out of the station and into the street, the first thing they saw was the road down hill that was surrounded with rows of houses, at the far bottom of the road was more buildings visible, one larger than the other, there was a school visible and probably shops too, a park was seeable on the other side of the central square.
Asuki looked around the place with curiosity, though she stopped to look at a tall building far from them, a black building that had clearly more than 20 floors in it, being the tallest building in the city that was half surrounded by mountain range, a huge red “C” hanging from the top of the building like an eyesore. Asuki was having a feeling about the building as she looked at it, like something bad would happen.
When the two finaly got to their house, it was already getting dark out. It was a 2,5 floor building that was facing the square full of shops and the school from a slightly higher point of view, but without as deep a downhill as the one next to the trainstation and the tall building still visable in the distance past the park that was inbetween their house and the central square. The road was forked towards the mountain range just a few blocks away from their house, one of the many roads out of the place.
“well, here we are!” Charles cheered, taking a deep breath and waving as the cab went off, looking around with a proudness to him. Asuki looked at him for a moment before sighing, a moment later turning around and taking one or two bags out of the pile next to the door and starting to walk in before stopping, a chill going down her back, she turned her head around to glance at the empty and dark street, with the feeling of someone being there, staring at the street for a while starting to walk into the house again.
“Uncle, you might want to hurry, you do have an early day tomorrow.” She said as she lugged her things in, once in a while glancing towards Charles still standing outside in all his proudness, a smirk spreading on Asuki’s face as she stood at the inside of the front door, “I could just leave you standing there, I heard it’s gona rain.” She said in an evil tone, Charles soon startling and rushing to take his stuff into the house before she closed the door.
The inside of the house was pretty simple, the living room had a square in the floor next to the windows of the opposite wall that was sunken, the walls otherwise covered in wood planks, a door to the basement next to the front door and a space in the wall on the opposite end that was a small corridor with a few steps of stairs to the kitchen from where there was a door to the balcony infront of the house and another set of stairs pretty much next to the ones going down, where there was a corridor with 4 sets of doors, a bathroom, a closet and 2 bedrooms. Asuki sighed in relief when she got to the bedroom on the right side of the stairs and opened the door. Nothing special, just a bed, desk, a few shelves and a dresses, she thought tiredly, I could decorate it later, but now for some shut eye. Just as she was finaly able to find what looked like a tent more than a shirt and was about to go under the covers of the bed on the other side of the room next to the window, a sensation of unease creeped in again and she looked out of the window, past the many houses, she could still see something outside, even in the pitch black of the night, though wich was soon lightened by the street lamps. Asuki looked at the sillouette of the black building that was again seeable in the night before getting into the bed and shutting off the lamp in her room.
Everything was dark, just walking forward in the black. Suddenly, something appeared infront of her, chains rustling as she stared at the thing infront of her, darker than everything around her, a pair of white eyes appeared infront of her, staring at her, an uneasy feeling of terror consuming her-.
Asuki sprang up from the bed, the beeping of the alarm clock next to her as she panted, startling even more as she looked atthe clock. Soon she sprang out of bed and started searching for her school uniform, dressing sloppily up and running out of the front door.
It had already been a few months from when Asuki had moved to the city with Uncle Charles, and it hasn’t been a smooth ride.
“I’m gona be late!” Asuki muttered to herself continuously as she ran past traffic and the park, looking at the small clock tower in the middle of the park before picking up speed, soon seeing the school a few blocks away.
As she got to the classroom door while panting, she knocked and soon the door opening with an old lady glareing at her, and when she looked into the class she remembered something. I was supposed to be doing the exam too! She thought as she was staying after the class was done and was time for lunch.
When Asuki got out of detention, the first to greet her was a girl with blonde hair and green eyes who was named Rouse, a cheery one she was, and the only one Asuki could tell stuff to, the second however, was a threesom of girls that were all blondes with bad attitudes, who loved messing around with her.
“hey Asuki... I pity you, having to redo a class already?” The ‘leader’ of the three said with a smirk while twirling her blonde locks around her finger while her posse giggled as if it was funny.
“hey Jordan! Listen, it’s not my busyness if you kiss others arses, but it’s your life, right?” Asuki retorted, gritting her teeth in an effort to keep a straight face, Rouse close behind her as she started walking past the girls, who had gotten on Jordan’s bad side for having laughed now.
As Asuki and Rouse got out of view from Jordan and her group, both sighed in relief, Asuki looking back for a moment, “I’d really like to kick Jordan’s butt.” She muttered as the two continued down the corridor.
“so, why’d you come late? Was it those dreams again?” Rouse asked quietly as the duo wrestled through the crowds, Asuki nodding silently before the two walked into a class room, taking the the desks at the back next to the windows, “I think-“ “everyone take their seats, class is starting.” Asuki and Rouse looked at the teacher standing infront of the chalk board, Asuki nearly couldn’t keep herself from panicing.
“t-the old vulcher?! W-why?!” Asuki muttered as she stared at the old woman who had an eye on her, struggling to keep her cool as she tried to get back a little more, Rouse sighing at her actions.
It was dark and yet there was something infront of her. Voices in the distance called her forward as she walked without knowing it. Soon she accompanied by blue lights, bubbles were comming from somewhere, and the feeling of being drowned creeped up, the uneasyness of the past having become a much more stronger feeling, now resembling something more like fear.
Asuki looked infront of her, seeing something, but before she could understand what was going on she heard something loud right next to her.
“Miss Asuki, please stay awake during class, before you have to stay after school aswell.” The old woman yapped, standing next to her as she looked up in a slight haze, as if her mind was still somewhere else, though she soon straightened up and stared at the book infront of her as the old woman walked away.
“Asuki, are you sure you’re alright?” Rouse whispered to her in concern when the old woman wasn’t looking, Asuki just glancing to her with a half-hearted smirk.
The bell rang and they where off again, to the next class and the next until the day was over, in high spirits as they had been able to evade getting into trouble.
The next day arrived sooner than expected, and ended, Asuki feeling more and more troubled by the second.
The sound of bubbles in the darkness, everything smudged into a blur.
“I... hear something...” a doubled voice echoed as somewhere far away a voice came, a cheery one past all the bubbles, “bubbles go pop!” the cheerful voice repeated over and over.
“who’s there?” the doubled voice echoed a bit louder, “... something goes pop?”
“no, no! Bubbles! Bubbles go pop!” the other voice said before continuing to ‘sing’.
“bubbles...?” the doubled voice asked, the sound of bubbles seeming closer now.
“oh my! One of the experiments opened her eyes! This is incredible!” the voice came from somewhere close, staring at a white smudge appearing just past the blue bubbling water, the doubled voice echoing again, “who’s there... ?”
there was voices coming from somewhere close, the white smudge accompanied by another, the loud noice of tapping on a keyboard close by.
“who’s there... ?” The doubled voice repeated, leaning forward and hitting something, like a screen, one of the smudges becoming slightly clearer, a petite figure with dark brown hair.
“oh, so this ones awake then?” the other white smudge said, coming closer to the screen, light blue eyes staring back, “amazing, its eyes are a different color!” the smudge added before becoming more blurred, the ‘it’ having moved back a little, turning its head towards the voice that had kept repeating itself on the other side of the bubbles.
“annoying idiot...” the doubled voice echoed before it turned back towards the white smudges who were still speaking, and closed its eyes to the darkness again, listening to the voices far away, “so many voices... unfamiliar... who... ?”
looking at the many faces above as she was laying on the floor. having no idea what was going on, Asuki soon sat up on the ground, feeling a little nauseous at first. Asuki could hear people around her talking or laughing, but didn’t care enough to listen to them, knowing exactly what they were saying.
“are you ok?” a short man with half of his hair gone was squatting next to her, the teacher, she remembered and nodded her head, “I’ll take you to the nurse’s office, just to be sure.” The teacher added in concern, “all of you, read for the test that’s tomorrow, while I get miss Asuki to the nurses’.”
The united sighs filled the class as the two left for the nurses’ office.
“this was the 5th time this week you’ve abruptly passed out in class, if this continues you should be home resting!” the short man said as they reached the nurses office, stopping at the door.
“I’m ok, really, just don’t call-...” she stopped, hearing hastened steps and soon getting into a bear hug from the crying man dressed in yellow; Charles.
“Uncle Charles... how nice... to see... you... squeesing me... to death...” she panted, in pain from the too tight hug she was getting.
“oh! Sorry, sorry! So you’re ok?” Charles asked after loosening his grip, Asuki taking a breather before answering, “the killer hug not included; yeah, I’m fine...” she muttered, rubbing her ribs for a moment, “can I go to class now?” Asuki added before walking towards the classroom, Charles walking off somewhere with the teacher.
As Asuki sat down to her regular seat, everyone around her either looked at her or spoke to the closest people around them and had a laugh, though not Rouse, who was asking about stuff as usual.
When the bell rang, most of the people in the room left, except Asuki who was looking out at the people slowly appearing on the yard, and Rouse who was talking to her even though she sometimes didn’t reply. What’s going on, Asuki thought to herself, why’s something like this happening, why now?
“move, move, move!” Asuki repeated in a whisper as she cheered at a miniature train moving slowly forward on a set up railroad ontop of two desks, hers and Rouses, doing a partner project called ‘Low On Charge Train’. A loud “yeah!” came from their corner as both practicaly jumped about cheerfuly.
“so, you two figured a way to move the train?” the short man asked as he walked to them and looked at their project with curiosity, “yeah!” Asuki smirked as Rouse showed the teacher how they did it, then explained it to him, “that’s very good, nice job!” the teacher praised, soon looking around as a tapping noice came from somewhere in the classroom, a few minutes afterwards a man in yellow rushed through the class door in panic, “sorry! But I got message from someone saying I have to come and retrieve the corpse of Asuki and-“ Charles stopped as he saw Asuki walking towards him from the other side of the classroom, punching him in the gut as she passed and went out of the door into the corridor. She walked to the girls bathroom, being thrown trash at and laughed at on the way, and went into one of the cubes, sitting on one of the toilets with a sigh as she closed the door.
Many things went through her mind in the silence, soonputting her hands ontop of her face and sighing loudly, looking past her fingers at the roof as a cold chill creeped down her spine.
“Asuki...” something whispered from close by, sounding like it was a doubled voice. Asuki looked around herself for a moment before crouching down to look if someone was in the other cubes, though noticing something behind the door of the cube she was in, something burning mid air like black flames, something like black blood dripping on the floor. Startled by this, Asuki quickly got up from the ground and went as far away from the door as she could in panic, the doubled voice repeating her name over and over again, something becoming visible on the door, like someone carving into it;
“Help us. Find us. Need you. Asuki.”
As she read this, it seemed to be carved all over the wooden walls of the cube. As she tried to calm down she heard scratching and banging from behind the door, wich soon flung open, something like a black hole of flames shaped like a human floating infront of her, soon manifesting a pair of different colored eyes just before a pale face emerged from the black, its mis-matched eyes blankly staring at her, one of the eyes was white and had the whites black while the other was a little more normal and green. In fear, Asuki couldn’t do anything else but stare back at the monster that looked just like her, it soon moving to an inch away from her face.
“Find us, Asuki.” The doubled voice echoed before the thing past right through her like a ghost and vanished, leaving her to scream her lungs out from the feeling of pure fear licking at her body.
The voice was still echoing in her mind as she heard someone coming, looking around at the cube she was in as it looked just as it did before the scary encounter, though the door soon slammed open infront of her again.
“what happened?!” the man said in concern. this time a familiar face was standing there as she jumped at him while crying, Charles seeming quite confused but somewhat relieved as he looked at her hanging from him, patting her back a little as people started coming in. there was muffled sounds of chatter all around as some of the teachers arrived, “we heard someone scream, is everything all right here?” one of the teachers, the short man, asked as he got through the bathroom door and the people trying to peer in.
“oh, everything’s fine!” Charles a little bit shocked on how many people actualy came, though his cheerful expression faded a little as he continued in a more serious and concerned tone, “if I may, I would like to take Asuki home to rest for a bit.”
The short man nodded just as someone started trying to ‘swim’ past the masses of people blocking the way, blonde hair and green eyes coming in and out of view past the door before Rouse finaly came out of the pile of people and dropped to the floor in surprise. They all looked at her for a moment as she stood up and started apologising non-stop to them.
“it would probably be best if you took her with you, she might be of some help.” The short man added in a whisper while Charles just nodded.
As they started walking from the school, Asuki half asleep while carried on Charles’ back, not able to fall asleep, while Rouse and Charles were talking to each other about random stuff. A few minutes worth of walking later, a thought popped into Charles’ mind as he looked into the sky.
“so it has begun... I see...”

“Asuki...” something whispered from close by, sounding like it was a doubled voice. Asuki looked around herself for a moment before crouching down to look if someone was in the other cubes, though noticing something behind the door of the cube she was in, something burning mid air like black flames, something like black blood dripping on the floor. Startled by this, Asuki quickly got up from the ground and went as far away from the door as she could in panic, the doubled voice repeating her name over and over again, something becoming visible on the door, like someone carving into it;
“Help us. Find us. Need you.
I see...”
