**The Doom of the World**
Chapter One
A brand new day it was... the sun was slowly rising over the horrizon... shining brightly. The world was in perfect harmony as usual... the sky was a beautiful light blue, birds tweeting in the sky, flying around in circles in the rays of the sun. The big structures of the cities could be seen for miles, the great City of Independance was the most noticable. The biggest strong point in the world at the time; not a single threat could get in. The police force within was a very watchful, eagle-like group. Nothing would escape their line of sight. Absolutely nothing. Robert Metallic, an early twenties hedgehog, sat down upon a bench... the futuristic, really comfortable benches within the city walls were a good thing to sit or lay upon. He looked left and right briefly, for anything that may possibly catch his eyes... nothing. He sighed in pure boredom, before picking up the week's newspaper. The, Independant Times.
He flicked through various pages, reading the first paragraph of them briefly, not really caring about much of the pointless gossip and bullshit that people spread these days. Reading the paper was like listening to a kid tell a story about a dream they had. Exadurated, not true, and usually, just pure lies. "As usual, absolutely nothing of interest. Brilliant." He grumbled, before throwing the paper to the side. The paper was caught by a brief gust of wind, and it hit a local smack bang in the face, startling him slightly, causing him to stumble backwards. The local then removed the newspaper from his face, and gave a cold, angry stare into Robert's eyes...
"Wanna tell me what the heck that was about?!" The local growled, not very happy about the paper in face thing at all. Yet again, who would be happy if some random person you've never seen in your life threw a piece of paper into your face? Robert stood up quickly, with little to no hesitation, and put his hands out, stepping backwards just slightly, inch by inch.
"Whoah whoah, sorry! I had no idea you were standing there..." Robert explained, a slight ammount of fear was detectable in his shaky voice. Robert wasn't really much of a tough guy... a 'pussy' is what the younger people would call him. The local continued glaring at Robert for a few more seconds, before speaking again.
"Yeah yeah, whatever. Watch what you're doing for Klepturo's sake... if you did it to the wrong guy at the wrong place at the wrong time, he'd probably not be so forgiving..." He sighed, before rubbing his eyes lightly... he continued to stare at Robert, as if he was expecting a response it seemed. Robert nodded slightly, and had the most worried expression upon his face...
The local shrugged, before finally, actually walking away. Robert uttered a sigh of relief as the local just simply turned his back and walked away. Not really a thing that'd normally happen. The police in the city didn't care about street fights. Only if it was weapons involved. THEN they'd ofcourse care! Robert looked around briefly, before realising there was no point in sitting down again. He decided to walk around the city, looking for something to do. The big structure was the first thing that caught his eye, the first thing that tended to catch anyone's eye really. The size of it was too big... it was like the Empire State Building, but 50-100% taller. Absolutely massive. How it was built, heck, how it even stays standing is a mystery to everyone. Robert sighed again... was this his life? Repeating the same old cycle over and over again until he died? Was it?! He sulked, before noticing the recently constructed gun store up three floors of the Tower. In reality, it was a sign saying:
'Weapons of all Kinds! Third Floor, Room Six! Only at the Tower of Independance.' The sign was a bit... too big to be honest. A person from miles away that needed glasses to see long distance would notice it. And that wasn't expressing it! Robert decided to push through the big crowds to get to the tower. The streets were always packed. You couldn't go through the city without seeing anyone. Heck, even going through the underground part would be somewhat crowded. Robert finally reached the doors of the grand tower, and entered the building. He walked to the barrier, and waited to be checked. A guard approached him slowly, and put the rifle in his hand, onto his back. Robert put his arms out, so he was in a perfect T-Pose. The guard began to pat Robert down, searching for any kind of weaponry. Nothing. Robert wasn't exactly rich. Living in the city was the thing that abducted his money, sucked it up out of his pockets. All that money, just to live in a boring old city? The protection atleast was worth it.
Definately worth it.
Robert sighed. "Take your time...?" He rolled his eyes, glaring at the guard. The guard frowned, and stood up. He made the barrier passable, but able to pick up anything explosive or hidden. Robert nodded slightly, and walked through the barrier. Nothing again. That meant he was clear to proceed. Robert continued his walk through the big tower, up every floor, until he reached Floor 3. He walked through the big long corridors... "Area Six... Area Six... where are you..." He looked at every single door possible... there were about 30 areas on a single floor, so it'd take a while. He atlast found the door to Area Six. He put his CID card on the reader, and the door slid open. He walked through the door, and it closed automatically behind him. He looked around the area before him, in some slight amazement. "...Whoah..." He gasped, awe filling his mind. He was lost for words. There was more guns on the wall then anywhere in the whole city, ranging from plasma rifles, to laser pistols, to even EMP grenades. Robert instantly though to himself: "My favourite store. Definately!" The shop owner tapped Robert on the shoulder softly, causing Robert to jump, literally, in shock. "AGH!" He yelled, being woke up from his dream world. The owner quickly stepped back, shocked himself at the reaction... he then slightly smiled once Robert put his eyes on him. "Ah... sorry about that. Daydreaming..." Robert explained, scratching the back of his head. It was quite clear that he was embarrassed by the foolishness of his reaction, judging by the redness of his face anyway. The owner grinned slightly, before crossing his arms.
"So. What ya here for anyway? Weapons? Ofcourse you are, come on!" The owner insisted... not really even giving a single second for Robert to respond to the question. Robert shrugged, following the owner through the big area... shelves full of weaponry. All of it seemed very modern. Like it was from a totally different damn city. But, technology does get better, not worse. Sooner or later, the whole city'd be swarming with modern technology.
Robert sighed... looking through the vast armory. There was too much to choose from. He couldn't make his mind up on what to get. Although, he completely forgotten, he had barely any money. Only about... 30 Dollars. Not enough to get a plasma rifle really. He looked around the big room and noticed a strange robot sitting there. It was shut down it seemed, but it looked pretty dangerous. In the shape of a scorpion it was. Steel plated armor. Looked like it could do some damage. Robert raised an eyebrow and walked up to it. "Heh heh, neat robot here. Did you make this?" He asked, seemingly interested. The shop owner nodded. "Yup. Been working on tonnes of things... for a while. Got my own lab. Work on blue prints at night, watch the shop at day. Name's Jonathan Lockfield... maybe you've heard of me?" The owner said, smooth talking. Ofcourse, everyone in the city knew about him... the 'Robotic Wizard' was one of his many nicknames, due to his abillity to do practically anything with robots. His first design was called the Mecha-Scorpion. Just as the name suggests, a Mechanical version of a Scorpion. It was much bigger than an average scorpion though.
The owner smiled slightly. "I'm working on a new version of that. I'm going to call it the Robo-Scorpio. It'll be a great thing... trust me..." He announced, clearly proud of his accomplishments. He had a right to be proud to be honest. The guy had specialized in that kind of stuff. He brought the whole robotics thing to life, in the dull world... things were going okay for him. Absolutely fine. He had a really easy life, just sitting in his lab making new robots, and getting tonnes of money, respect and power. What more could a guy want?
